Come With Me

Painting people I know is of the utmost importance to my work- when a subject and I don’t know each other that deeply yet, painting them is one of the best ways I know to discover their spirit. Many would disagree about my introversion (I’m a chronic over-sharer and quite the loud speaker) but I think none would disagree about Haylie’s. Despite both of our inclinations to stay home when we could be out with friends, we’ve shared the desire to be friends for some time now. When she volunteered as tribute for a painting for my first solo show, I absolutely pounced on the opportunity to get to know her better. Mayo and Maze were a necessity to complete a painting of sweet Haylie. Cats are the perfect symbol of gentle introversion, but the painting depicts a livelier version of the three- elevated by a magic tea and a doorway to a greener aethereal world. In order to be complete, a little more magic was needed to come into play- hours upon hours of my free time at work was spent creating 3d sparkling monarch butterflies, which light up “Come With Me” to just the right degree. My hope is to do more work like this, that can be sold for the benefit of creatures like the monarch. There is so much more good that needs to come from the art world. Never just about aesthetic, one day the sales of my art will help bring the New Heaven to Earth.
