Painting people I know and love

March 2020, in the midst of pandemic shutdown, I turned to painting to keep me sane. A friend reached out wanting to be painted- “Hey! I know this is extra…but could you paint this?” I’d never made a realistic nude before, but the challenge was welcomed with nothing but time on my hands. Finished in no time (for such a detailed work) she outshone her background in quite the unfair way. With a work titled “Tiger Lilies” the flowers needed to really pop! So almost a year later I set to work crafting flower after flower out of paper. All finished and she looked much better…but still not quite right. As a self taught artist there are many trials and errors to be made. She was perfect and the flowers were perfect, but I needed to drown out the noise. With a scalpel I sliced and diced, hoping with a new background she’d look just right. I give you my final product - two years in the making, here is Tiger Lilies
